Castle on the Hill: Germany Day 1 and 2

Guten Morgen! Or good morning for those of you that don’t speak German! I just got back from Germany the other day, and I had to share my trip! Honestly, Germany had never been high on my list of places that I wanted to visit. After spending a week there though, it has definitely become one of the places I recommend visiting before you die. Between the castles and charm of the Rhine, to the history and culture in Berlin, there’s something for everyone. (Also, I highly recommend going in October, the leaves changing colors just made it seem like something out of a book. ๐Ÿ‚)

My mom and I took the trip together, and thanks to some of her connections we got a free upgrade and got to fly Business Class! Holy cow! I felt so spoiled and kept thinking I don’t deserve this. Everyone around us clearly travelled that way often, so I was trying not to geek out too much ๐Ÿ˜‚ย but I doubt I did a very good job!

We landed in Frankfurt Thursday morning, and after dropping our bags off at our hotel, we took a train to Heidelberg. Heidelberg is this adorable town that only takes about an hour to get to by train. The houses and buildings along the edge of the river are just gorgeous and so colorful. The town also has a castle up on the hill (now I know what Ed was singing about!) that you can see from wherever you are. My mom and I just walked around the town and grabbed some lunch.

They had tons of little tourist shops and of course we had to stop in the Lindt chocolate store! They had a bunch of different truffle flavors that I had never seen before! Gingerbread and salted caramel anyone? ๐Ÿ˜‹

Look at all that chocolate!!

Friday my mom had to work so I traveled to Kรถln (or Cologne in English) by myself. I spent most of the day just wandering around. The main attraction is the Cologne Cathedral, it’s located right outside the train station so it’s hard to miss. I also walked around, saw the Love Lock Bridge and just hung out by the river. The city was beautiful, but I definitely got lonely and was wishing someone was there to explore with me.

From Kรถln I trained to Oberweisel. I met back up with my mom here and we took a cab to our hotel for the night, which was actually…A CASTLE! ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿ‘ธ๐Ÿผ

Stay tuned for my night in the Castle and then on to Berlin! If you haven’t been convinced to check out Germany yet, just wait ๐Ÿ˜‰
